25th Memorial Championships

fountain hills parkGreat footage today from DiscGolfPlanet of the 25th Memorial Championships presented by Discraft. After having a rough round yesterday Nikko Locastro fell off the lead card. He had an uphill putt on one of the last holes for his deuce. First attempt hit the cage rolled down the hill and OB. Second attempt hit dead center but splashed out and also rolled down hill and OB. Then Nikko had to lay up and take a seven! After that he was out of his element and missed at least one more usually routine putt and ended with a 57. Today he fought his way back to finish in 4th place which is pretty crazy. He shot 3 great rounds, including an 1108 rated first round, and one bad one with that 57.

Paul McBeth had 3 very consistent rounds heading into today. He shot two 48’s and a 49 but today he went off the chain with a 39. I’m pretty sure that is a course record and it also may be a ratings record at 1126! It was almost enough to catch Will Schusterick who played just a bit better heading into the finals. Paul ended up two strokes back from Will but low and behold Will took a 2 shot penalty at the end of the round for not tallying his score card!

This made Paul and Will tied for the lead which forced a playoff. The playoff was not long, Will parked his drive off the first tee and took the victory after Paul could not sink his 50-60 foot putt. After the initial win Will was talking to the announcers and had to be called back for an ‘issue’. He was like ‘What?! What?!’ You could tell some drama was coming. Chat was blowing up with people wanting to know what happened. A good lesson to everyone that you need to be sure your card is accurate and complete.

Ricky Wysocki was also playing very consistent but had some OB trouble during the finals to finish 5th. Philo Brathwaite tied for 7th with Dave Feldberg after throwing 4 nice rounds all rated 1049 and over.

In the womens pro open Paige Pierce jumped out to an early lead and held it for the length of the event, shooting two rounds at 52, one at 54 and one at 58. Paige really set the bar for the ladies high for the 2013 season with three rounds over 1000 rating. Val Jenkins came in second 13 strokes behind Paige. rounding off the top 5 in the WPO division was Sarah Hokom, Catrina Ulibarri and Liz Dorries.

Its great to be able to watch streaming video of the Pros, one more step closer to prime time.
